Word on the street is that the school board is a little upset with me posting the parents letter.  Guess what? GOOD they should be! A little late though don't you think?

I have lost count of parents that have emailed me with almost the exact same stories.

Their child being bullied, school officials DO NOTHING!

This is not just a recent problem, its been going on for YEARS!

The bully's suffer no consequences for their actions. Matter of fact they are rewarded by being allowed to participate in school activities, sports, etc. But the poor victim and their families sure suffer! What is wrong with this picture?

this mess with school board is no surprise years ago i spoke to a board member about an incident with a substitute teacher and my daughter she went to the board an they told her not to stir up any I see nothing has changed

What I am trying to wrap my head around, is why this school is refusing to address this bullying situation. I mean cyber-bulling and right out bullying is a very hot topic in the news; especially with the kids that have committed suicide because of being bullied!!! I believe someone should contact the National Board of Education in Washington DC to see if they can send someone to investigate this school because I "believe" Tyler's civil rights have been violated!!

Nancy Wiggins It is one thing GC bullying adults with ridiculous spending habits, but allowing kids to be bullied by their peers & educators is just WRONG! Yes, I saw this bullying taking place to someone in my own family, the issue was addressed to school authorities, NOTHING was done. Ended up, dropped out of school, got GED and has ever since hated to admit ever being in GC school system. I was heartbroken with decision to drop out but I respected & understood the reason. Never will forget or forgive something that could have, should have been stopped but no it is allowed to continue.

Nita Holder well lets hope they change the PTA. My sister is a teacher there & I know she would not tolerate the bullying. You (Amy ) are better than me cause I would be the one in jail. I HATE bullys. And when the mother did nothing to help I would have probably been arrested. Good luck.

  Lisa LeeLee Byrd Temple What happened to ZERO TOLERANCE for bullying??? I can not understand how this is not only being allowed in the public school system but the behavior of this bully is apparently condoned & even encouraged...where are the authorities who are allowing this woman (mother of the bully) to speak to another parent in the his manner yet still hold a position of authority herself? She needs to be STOPPED! As the old saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...there is no doubt where this CHILD (bully) gets her cocky attitude from! They BOTH need to be stopped! I sincerely hope that these news channels getting involved brings some much needed attention to this situation! I have known Tyler her entire life and can't honestly say I know a kid (even my own) as quietly sweet and humble as her! I have also known Amy so long I don't remember actually meeting her...and I know she is a good strong mother who would do anything for her children...yet she has no reason to attempt to "live through" them as she has had a very full life of her own. I also know that it is not her choice to be at home with disabilities which make it impossible for her to be out working. She has no control over that & yet this supposed adult can sit back & ridicule her for the simple act of standing up for her child!?!? Someone please STOP these people. In my honest opinion Tyler is better off OUT of that school but it is my hope that this can be stopped so that other CHILDREN are not subjected to the horror that Tyler has been through! Good luck & if I can be of any assistance don't hesitate to ask!

  Susan Lee Barber This small town school system needs to open their eyes. Emotional bullying can cause more damage to a child than physical bullying sometimes. The whole country is hell bent on controlling a person's right to bear arms but bullying seems to to swept under the rug in Gates County. WAKE UP PEOPLE !!! where do u think school violence starts. U cannot allow a child to be bullied just because u r friends with the parent of the child that is doing the bullying. Obviously this child has no one to teach her that bullying is wrong because the parents seem to be bullies too in their own way. And when the school system blows it off like its no big thing then a lesson will never be learned. Central Middle School in Gates County, NC needs to be held responsible for letting these children who are victims of bullying down and not protecting them just so they don't stir the pot with their friends. Sorry is not a comforting word when it's too late and this problem has gone too far. GET UR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND GATES COUNTY and do the job u were elected or hired to do. An injured or dead child on ur hands is a lot harder to deal with than losing ur so called high society upstanding head in the sand members of the community and school system as ur good friends. Roanoke Rapids stands behind u Tyler and all the other kids who are being bullied at Central Middle School. Hold ur heads up high. U ARE LOVED !!!!!

Terri Lee Godsey I do not understand why the parents and the school do not do ANYTHING about these bullies. In my opinion the parents and the school are just as much a bully as their children. It's a shame my niece cant attend school and get her education without being bullied. But her bully has the school in the palm of her hand and that's the problem. Discipline begins at home, so that tells me that her Mom is a Bully also to let her child get away with the things she has done. I read stories everyday about children committing suicide because of bullying. Something needs to be done about this GOOD 'OLE BOY SYSTEM

Kathy I was on your Friends of Gates County Facebook page last night and was appalled at what I read coming from Ms. Watson mother of the accused bully.It is apparent she has issues and totally was trying to attack everyone she could including you.I was confused since all you did was print a letter from the victims parents and gave her the opportunity to tell her side, which she never did.This person is the president of a PTA? This is a note given to my Daughter from a friend of hers about the bully saying her "boyfriend" wants to KILL the cheerleaders, this was told to the school and the resource officer and it went NO WHERE!!

EXACTLY what is it going to take to get these officials to ACT! Too late after a child is dead! Too late then.

It's is time for this good ole boy whoyaknow infantile actions by this school system to STOP now. Your job is to protect all the children...not just some.

To have a mother who heads your PTA to drop F-Bombs on a social media site, this is ALLOWED and she is not removed immediately is just beyond crazy. This woman has left quite a paper trail behind. What I find funny, she goes back and deletes them...Too Late...people have copied and saved them.

Specific policy number protecting children from (1) Verbal Harassment; (2) discrimination (received from the school) and (3) bullying!
